WEST COUNTY NEWS

A farewell celebration is in order for Dr. Keith Marty who is retiring from the Parkway Schools Superintendent after 14 years of dedication in creating a strong legacy of education excellence in the district.  Most specifically he made character education a priority of his tenure.  Congrats Dr. Marty!! In Chesterfield, “The Wedge” which is the location of a gas station located at Olive Street and Chesterfield Airport Road has finally been approved to proceed forward with renovations.  The City of Chesterfield went forward with the proposed plans which includes tearing down the existing store and putting in a new convenience store, pump islands, a car wash and a strip mall.  There was a lawsuit involving this property and the city since 2017.  The plans still ultimately have to get approved by the City Council but things are moving.  Interesting article on westnewsmagazine.com about the growth of St. Charles County and the impact of that.  Much of their growth over the years has been a large influx of the senior citizen community buying single family ranch homes.  Issue that the mayor is concerned with is that there aren’t as many opportunities for young families to buy single family homes.  Less young families means less buying occurring (as senior citizens tend to buy less than a young family) so money won’t be coming in from sales tax as much.  Check out the article for some interesting insights to what’s happening in St. Charles County but also St. Louis County and growing west cities like Cottleville, Lake St. Louis, etc.
