WEST COUNTY NEWS
In Ballwin, there was a recent MoDot safety audit that took place and as a result, there will be safety improvements made to the stretch of Manchester Road between Holloway and New Ballwin Roads. Audit found 658 crashes in that area between 2015-2024. Some improvements have already taken place like increased flashing time, refreshed pavement striping and crosswalk markings. They plan on adding more warning flashers and new signage as well. In Chesterfield, the existing businesses around the new Downtown area where the old Chesterfield Mall used to be recently was voted on to include them in the Special Business District. This means those businesses will have to help pay for the special additional services that might be needed like maintenance of streets, lighting, trails, landscaping medians, security and parking. The businesses that were voted on to be included are the Drury Hotel, Hyatt Place Hotel, Stoney River Steakhouse, Bishop’s Post and RedKey Realty. There has been quite a bit of opposition from these businesses saying that it is unsubstantiated claims that their guests will benefit from these updates. I’m sure there will be more on this to come. Next weekend on May 23, be sure to stop by the Wildwood Farmers Market where a new snack cart company will be launching. It has a great mission…mom Rebecca Flieg created the snack cart concept to help give her daughter Selah, who has an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) a place to work and a place to interact with the community. Rebecca says it’s a struggle for kids with disabilities to find a place like this and she’s hoping this snack cart will be a great option for her and others. She’s hoping it will turn into a brick and mortar store at some point as well. Be sure to check them out next week!
