We’re inching closer and closer to spring!  As warm weather approaches, we’ll start to see more great outdoor events.  This weekend, check out these great local events…

Those with kids in the Rockwood school district already probably know about this, but the Rockwood teachers began protests earlier this year for an increase in wages.  They are asking for 12% increase in wage over three years.  Negotiations are still in the works but they are really needing an agreement by March 11.  We’ll have to wait and see what comes of that.  In Chesterfield, the city engineer, Steve Merk, continues to gather feedback from residents on where they would like to see biking and walking improvements around the city.  It’s being called “Bikeable Walkable Plan”.  65 people recently attended an open house regarding it.  Schoettler Road and Wild Horse Creek Road were the top desired areas for these improvements.  Future projects regarding this will be worked on as the city nails down new projects.  A couple weeks ago, I wrote about the historic Lake School House in Creve Coeur that was trying to be saved from demolition.  Recently, it was voted on and the result was 6-1 to have it demolished.  A recent cracked beam, the lack of heating and cooling, and rotting wood all played a part making it very apparent that it was going to cost too much to rehab.   Historical contents of the school house will be removed before demolish and placed somewhere else.

BUSINESS OF THE WEEK:  This week I’m highlighting Duck in Market located in Valley Park! I know some would not consider this as in West County but they are a popular local restaurant that just happens to specialize in home-style creole food. Perfect for Mardi Gras which occurred earlier this week! They are a Cajun restaurant that has New Orleans inspired food like gumbo, red beans and rice, po boys, and voodoo pasta salad. Fresh baked goods are also offered daily such as blueberry banana bread, lemon cherry delight cookies, dark cherry chocolate devils food upside down cake and more! That’s not all that they sell…it might surprise you what else they specialize in.
