WEST COUNTY NEWS

An important upgrade was just approved by St. Louis County…it’s for the emergency communications system.  The SLATER system (St. Lous County’s Area Trunked Emergency Radio is what is used to dispatch and communicate with first responders in the county and across the region.  It’s about a 10 year old system and is nearing the end of its life.  Very important upgrade!  My heart was warmed reading about one local business helping out another this week.  I wrote a while back about West County Lanes potentially being shut down because of severe roof/building damage from the recent ice storms we had this winter and Clancy’s Irish Pub in Ellisville just raised $3,230 to help with the repairs!  What a nice gesture along with many others in the community donating $19,000.  The owners of West County Lanes are beyond thankful and look forward to hopefully opening back up in the future.  The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America each year releases a ranking of major US metro areas based on the severity of allergy symptoms and want to take a guess of where St. Louis ranked??  We ranked #67 nationally!  I would of though we’d be a lot higher.  However, surrounding cities in Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas which are near us scored within the top six.  Pass the Zyrtec!!

WHAT WE’RE LOVING THIS WEEK

BUSINESS OF THE WEEK:  This week I’m highlighting Steampunk Brew Works located in Town and Country!! Who knew that Town and Country had a brewery?!? They are a microbrewery and beer making supply store that really focuses on sharing knowledge of all things beer. They have some of the best equipment and ingredients for beginners and experienced beermakers. And beer is not all they do…they have wine making supplies too!  They have a rich history dating back to the mid-1970s.
