Tips For Selling In The Summer

Most would think that selling in the summer is the perfect time to sell and yes, it is the height of the selling season for real estate and the buyer pool is larger this time of year.  All great things!  Selling in the summer also means you got a couple extra things to take care of.  Here are some tips to make sure you are focusing on when selling in the summer.

  • Keep up on the grass cutting and lawn care.  If you cut your grass yourself, make sure you allot time to do that every week.  If you tend to push out the time between cuttings, I would suggest to keep up on it a little sooner to make sure your lawn is looking its best.  If you hire this out, just make sure they come once a week, especially in the spring and early summer when grass is still growing pretty rapidly.
  • Put out some bright colored plants and make sure you water them. If you’re not used to planting flowers and you get some extra to make the outside look bright and fresh, just don’t forget to water them.
  • Fix exterior issues. In nice weather, buyers are more apt to walk outside and look at everything. On a cold winter day, they won’t do that as much or won’t for longer periods of time.  Make sure your siding looks good, gutters and downspouts are where they should be, trashcans are tucked away, etc.
  • Even though it stays lighter later, it might be a good time to update exterior lighting.
  • If you have patio furniture, put out nice cushions and make sure they are clean. There is nothing worse than seeing moldy, old patio cushions.
  • If you have a pool, make sure it’s clean and looking good.  Skim the pool in the morning before any showings.
  • Make sure your air conditioning is working. Even if you like keeping it on the warmer side, it’s best to keep the inside a nice cool temperature for buyers to walk through. If it’s warm inside, they will assume the AC isn’t working.
  • Make sure the interior of the home has nice pops of bright color too if possible. This could be as simple as a vase of flowers or putting away heavy drapes or big wintery blankets.

Summer is the selling season so make sure your home is staged to sell!!  If you have additional questions about this or just wanting some advice, I’m happy to help!
