This week I’m highlighting Mexican Barrel House!  This long awaited Mexican restaurant located in Creve Coeur opened just a couple months ago and what better time to highlight them since it’s Cinco De Mayo tomorrow!!

The Mexican Barrel House is owned by the same people (Alfredo Flores being one of them) who own and operate the very successful Casa Juarez Mexican Town in Maryland Heights.  They wanted to do something a little different with this location in Creve Coeur.  A little higher end and serving up Mexican food that tastes fresh.  They have a variety of items on their menu including Tex-Mex BBQ, traditional Mexican dishes, and tacos.  They have brunch as well, Monday through Thursday it’s 10am-2pm, Friday and Saturday 9am-2pm and Sundays 9am-3pm.  A lot of yummy options for brunch including traditional options like French toast and Belgian waffles but also Tex-Mex, salads and omelets.  

Their opening, as many of you probably already know, did take quite a long time.  I believe it was around 4 years.  Reviews have been mixed so far but a lot of positive comments regarding the atmosphere, service and food.  I personally went there to meet some friends for a happy hour and had their skinny margarita which was fresh, delicious and not so heavy and filling as a traditional margarita does for me.  We also had guacamole and salsa which were both excellent.  The atmosphere definitely lived up to what I had read about before.  It is so lively in there!  The bar is beautiful and all the artwork was really nice to look at.  I like how the tables are also in cozy areas.  Their patio is huge and I can’t wait to sit outside next time (We had a severe thunderstorm the night I went!).

I look forward to going back for dinner soon with my family!  If you haven’t visited them yet, I would recommend to give them a try!  They are having a huge Cinco de Mayo party too!
