“Coming from Contribution’: My New Journey

Hi Everyone!  I will be honest, I have never blogged before so please go easy on me as I start this new journey.  I’m very excited about it!  I titled this post “Coming from Contribution” because it is something not only taught as a key philosophy in our Keller Williams culture but also because it is a value that I hold high personally.  What that phrase means to me boils down to simply helping others.  We are all called to help others and being in the real estate industry, I strive to do that with every client and potential client.  Thus, I’m starting this blog to help educate others on all things real estate.  To keep things interesting, I also plan to write about other things I’m passionate about like home décor/design, organizational tips (Those who know me know that one of my favorite stores is The Container Store!) and of course mom stuff (my favorite job of all).

So onto my first topic…it’s about a concept that anyone listing their home needs to repeat to themselves all the time. The concept is this: ONCE YOUR HOME IS LISTED ON THE MARKET, YOUR HOUSE IS NOW A PRODUCT IN COMPETITION.” It’s not a flashy topic per se but it is a very important concept and mindset to have when selling.  It’s an easy concept for me to think about since I have a business degree in marketing but even if you don’t have a marketing degree, everyone is a consumer and appreciates quality products that are priced right.  A home is no different-buyers want a well-maintained home at a fair price.  I know it is very easy for homeowners to become attached to their home and it can be difficult to remove that emotion and really think of it as a product.  However, though, in all actuality, it is a product and it’s the job of your real estate agent to market it the best they can and get it exposed to as many people as possible.  Since it’s a product, it is so important to know the competition out there-the houses currently listed, but also, houses that have recently sold.  Sold home data IS the market and gives us concrete evidence of what buyers are willing to pay in the current market.

So bottom line…just as if you were selling merchandise in a store, you want the display and presentation of your merchandise to look it’s best…clean, organized, appealing…so those are things you’ll want to do with your home.  Make sure it’s clean, clutter-free and staged just right so that it looks appealing to prospective buyers.

Hope you found this helpful!  I would love any suggestions on topics so feel free to send those my way. Make it a great one!
